Parking Ideas & Opinions

Let us know what you think; try to be polite and fact-based:

  • Proposal: Public Parking should be reduced (or maintained as is)
    • PROS
    • Parking lots are unpleasant
    • Parking creates traffic & a demand for more parking
    • CONS
    • Businesses want parking
    • Fear that without public parking people will take our street parking
  • Proposal: Parking on local streets should be metered (e.g. via Hybrid plan)
    • PROS
    • Should reduce long term parking and hence free up spots
    • Prices & max time allowed can be adjusted to ensure we do free up spots
    • Hybrid plan reduces number of ‘ugly’ pay stations
    • CONS
    • Other Torontonians like free parking
    • Local businesses like free parking
    • Some people may forced to take transit to the area
    • Our guests will have to pay (is there a way around this?)
  • Proposal: We should assign street spots for shared cars
    • PROS
    • Shared cars are environmentally friendly and reduce traffic
    • CONS
    • Zip, Enterprise, Car2Go and perhaps others would all have to be accomodated
    • Use up scarce street parking
  • Proposal: Add parking to west side of Cambridge south of Pretoria
    • PROS
    • Adds parking
    • Narrowing street may reduce traffic speed
    • CONS
    • Parking creates traffic
  • Proposal: Use diagonal parking on Cambridge south of Pretoria
    • PROS
    • Adds parking
    • Narrowing street may reduce traffic speed
    • CONS
    • Parking creates traffic
    • Looks weird
